My approach: Service is as important as services.
Creativity, strategic thinking and impeccable client service — that’s what makes LBCD different and what you can expect when you work with me, whether you’re a public agency, a nonprofit, a professional services or a small to mid-size business.
Nature and technology
I work in a lovely studio in the woods in Washington State where I am inspired by the best parts of nature and technology. My studio (above) is near Olympic National Park and about two and a half hours from Seattle. I love watching deer stroll by my windows. I also enjoy working with my far-flung team of fellow creatives and technologists, who join me on project adventures.
Depth as well as breadth
After completing a Bachelor of Arts degree at California State University at Long Beach, I came to the Northwest for graduate studies at the University of Oregon. After earning a Master of Fine Arts degree, I held design positions in Eugene, Oregon and Seattle. In 1980, I launched Laurel Black Design.
Awards
My work has received national recognition since 1992, including multiple American Graphic Design Awards and American Corporate Identity Awards. I am recognized by the U.S. Trademark Office as an expert witness on marketing in corporate identity, brand building, communications and business collateral. In 2014 I provided an analysis of the purpose of a client’s wordmark (its symbol in text or graphics), which enabled them to prevail against an infringement.
